My first official post on my new (and improved) site. This is so exciting! I hope you all take some time to peek around. I will still be working out the final details over the next few days and then I promise a full virtual tour of all the new features. We had a wonderful–albeit busy–Christmas. Growing up, Christmas was always very chaotic and stressful in my house. My dad loved Christmas and would try to “do it up right,” but as a busy business owner, didn’t really have time to attend to the details. My mom grew up in a poor, ultra-religious immigrant family that didn’t celebrate Christmas except ... read more
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I sincerely apologize for the lateness of these giveaway drawings, and for being MIA over the past week. My gift to my family was a few days away from the computer, and as I still have family in town for the next few days, my posting will continue to be on the light side. However, I do have a BIG announcement coming tomorrow, so be sure to check in for some very exciting news. So without further ado, here are today’s winners: The winner of the makeup clutch from Punk Rock Mama is…. Louis (Raven In a Blue Room)(#8), who said, “I ... read more
Three days later, I think I’ve finally recovered from our Christmas party this past weekend! It was a lot of fun, but with 20 kids ages 5 and under (and their parents), it was also pretty chaotic. Luckily all our friends (at least those who attended) are all in this same crazy small-children stage of life, so everyone was happy to just go with the flow. The one thing every cocktail party needs? Cocktails! I always like to include a drink menu because I’ve found people often don’t know what to order. The most popular drink of the night was definitely the Pear-Appletini. The festivities started with a surprise visit ... read more
It’s Christmas week and if you’re anything like me, you’ve got a billion things left to do before the big holiday weekend. Because I want to be sure to have enough time to enjoy this special time with my family, my posting will probably be on the light side through the end of the year. However, I thought I’d start off your week with a fun and tasty little DiY project. No party is complete without a sweet little trinket your guests can take home, enjoy, and remember (hopefully) the wonderful time they had. For my little candy-cane themed shindig yesterday, I made peppermint bark favors. It amazes me that they ... read more
For our Christmas party last year, I bought several Christmasy flower arrangements, carefully arranged them in vases, and placed them around the house. Classy, perhaps, but completely unimaginative. I’m pretty sure no one even noticed them. Not exactly money well spent. So this year I decided to get a little more creative (and thrifty) with my flower arrangement, with the idea to create something similar to this: (image courtesy of MarthaStewart.com) I grabbed Husband’s hot glue gun, an empty can, & a box of candy canes & started gluing. The wrappers hung down over the bottom, so I glued those down and then cut a circle of scrapbook paper & ... read more
Today is Husband’s birthday. Like many poor December babies, he has the misfortune of having his birthday fall smack dab in the middle of the chaos of the holidays. In a lame attempt to make up for the fact that I am almost always too preoccupied with Christmas shopping/baking/party planning/etc. to properly prepare for his big day, I am dedicating this post to my guy. Honey, I just want you to know that I really, really love you. You are a wonderful husband, an amazing son, and the best daddy in the world. Happy birthday. Did you vote today? Click here!
There are moments (sometimes entire days) where I wish I could whisk myself back to those blissfully uncomplicated child-free days (the ones where, if I wanted, I could spend an entire day in bed reading a book or watching the HGTV Design Star marathon), where my Christmas parties were the toast of the town, sophisticated soirees full of glamorous guests, witty conversation, and killer cocktails. Okay, so aside from the killer cocktails, maybe none of that actually happened. My point is that it could have. But not anymore. The biggest surprise of parenthood for me has been how much kids change the dynamic of your social relationships. Parents of ... read more
It’s party time! Husband and I are throwing our annual holiday bash this weekend, so at the risk of spoiling the surprise (for my friends who read this blog), I thought I’d share some of my party preparation this week, starting today with my inspiration for this year’s shindig: candy canes, cocktails, & christmas classics. Today I am guest posting over at Frugality is Free about my favorite tips for throwing a fabulous party on a budget. So after you check out my inspiration for this weekend’s party, be sure to head on over to check it out! Here is my inspiration: Stay tuned for party progress! Did you vote ... read more
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It is hard to believe that Christmas is now less than two weeks away. Is it just me, or does time seem to speed up at this time of year? I have lots of fun Christmas party planning ideas to bring you this week, but today I thought I would do a quick recap of our Disney weekend & share 5 more tips for Disney fun. Disney World is pretty much magical anytime, but there is something very special about seeing it all decked out for the holidays. I mentioned a few months ago that this year we spent a large ... read more
If you have, or have ever had a four-year-old, you will know what I’m talking about. I love Princess to death and she is, for the most part, pretty darn angelic (especially when compared to her demon-possessed high-spirited little sister.) But I’m not gonna lie. Sometimes she just drives me crazy. From the minute she wakes up until the moment she goes to bed, except maybe to eat, she never stops talking. And it’s not just mindless chatter that you can tune out, although I do try. Her chatter, for the most part, is highly imaginative pretend play that requires me, the listener, to engage with. “Mommy, you be the kid ... read more
Today is my one and only sister’s birthday, so I decided to dedicate a post just to her. You will never find another person sweeter, kinder, or more caring than my sis. She and I have had our share of differences over the years, but we’ve always managed to work our way through them and grow closer as a result. In so many ways we are polar opposites, but I can honestly say she is my very best friend. So happy birthday, sis. Thanks for another great year & for all that you do. Here’s to you.
