Trouble is almost 2.
Can you believe it?
No, I can’t either. My baby is not a baby anymore!
But while I am feeling a little sad that she’s growing up so fast, I can’t help but get excited about the prospect of planning a birthday party. It is, after all, my very favorite thing to do!
A few weeks ago I ordered a few things for the girls from my favorite kid’s store, Gymboree.
Everything–including sale items–was an additional 30% off AND I had a coupon for 20% off my entire order. It made me a little giddy & I couldn’t resist taking a peek at the birthday outfits.
I fell in love with the most adorable “Birthday Girl” ice-cream cone shirt.
That shirt has become my inspiration for Trouble’s “Sweet Soda Shop” party.

I’m still not quite sure how I’m going to pull it all together, especially on a budget.
It’ll probably involve a lot of DiY projects.
And I’m going to need to find a cheap supplier for all that candy!
But there’s nothing I love more than a frugal challenge.
I’ll keep you posted on my party progress….

Just wanted to let you know that Oriental Trading sell candy in the bulk for cheap. I bought some of those twisty lollipops, shown in your top left picture, for my son’s birthday and they were a big hit.

To display gumballs, jelly beans, etc in glass canisters, put a larger container in the canister and fill the space between the canister and the container (does this make sense?). If the container you put in the center slides around, fill it with rice or beans to keep it steady. You will save money by using a lot less candy.

Ruth,
So in about a month, I am throwing a birthday party for all 3 of my children! This is a new venture for us, but because two of our children are born days before Christmas, this is something that needs to be done! So I am thinking on having a Beach themed party since I have 2 girls and a boy. I have been searching the internet and haven’t really found anything that I love so I thought about doing it DIY, like you are doing for Trouble. So now that you have the back story, how do you make your inspiration boards?
