thursday shopping 5-19-11 {& weekly shopping linky}

I need to start by thanking you all for the wonderful gardening advice you’ve been giving us these past few days!  There were some great ideas that we can’t wait to try, & we really appreciate all your insight.

Sadly, we had a bit of a garden tragedy last night.  Our little baby watermelon–one of our proudest garden accomplishments thus far–met its end in an ill-fated lawnmower incident.

May you rest in peace, little guy, rest in peace.

Today’s shopping trip was quick and easy, mostly because the girls were oddly mellow, but also because I didn’t have several of the coupons on this week’s matchup list.  No worries, I still managed to come away with plenty of goodies, including a pack of Pull-Ups AND a pack of swim diapers!

I am so looking forward to the day when finding a great price on diapers is no longer a concern.  Trouble is totally intrigued by the potty and will spend hours sitting on it watching “Elmo’s Potty Time” over and over again, but we are still waiting for her first big pee-pee triumph.

But as riveting as I’m sure it must be, you’re not here for potty talk.   So without further ado, here is what I got:

At Publix I spent $23.96 for $129.10 worth of groceries, a savings of 81%.

You did really well considering that almost half of what you spent this week went to diapers. I had no idea you had a dog. Great job!

Thanks Debi. Yes, we have a Chocolate Lab. She was my dog before I met my husband, and back in the day she was as spoiled as they come–slept in my bed, doggie daycare every day, walks every morning, playdates on Saturdays. Then we had a kid and she became just the dog. Then we had 2 kids and she became the darn dog. :-) Just kidding, we love her! But she’s not quite as spoiled as she used to be.

Try http://www.amazon.com/Toilet-Training-Less-Than-Day/dp/0671693808. It’s a great book and has been around forever. It works as advertised. John was going on the potty, but only sporadically and when he wanted to. It only took one morning using the techniques in the book, and he had a newfound horror of being wet and now very infrequently has an accident (once every couple of days). We are down to 1-2 pullups a day and sometimes he’s even dry at night.

I believe you could have saved another 0.60 on the Wishbone dressing because the Redplum I got this week in the mail had a coupon for 0.60. Thought I would let you know.

    Hi Ruth,

Great purchases even though you didn’t have alot of coupons, that’s what I’m running into this week. I did do the walgreens body wash deal & finish dishwasher packs to turn around and use the rewards for pullups.. i too will be glad when those days are done. We only use pullups at night as my son potties like a big boy during the day, well mostly.. but he is almost 3.. so i’m ahead of my other 2 atleast! Great job on those dog treats didn’t realize you had a dog.. I’ve got lots of dog treat coupons just waiting for them to go on sale, with my 2 big muttbutts we go through alot of treats and they look for them everyday! Sorry about your watermelon.. I was so excited last year with mine and I cut it open and it was white.. not even close to being ready :( think I’ll just do baby ones this year..

    Hi Ruth,
Thanks so much for this awesome website. I live in Naples, FL and if it weren’t for you, I’d probably be paying full price at Publix. I have a question, I went ahead and printed the coupons needed for this week Publix shopping and realized that the Chinet $1 off coupon states “redeem one (1) coupon per purchase/household in accordance with our policy” does this mean I can only use one $1 off coupon instead of two? The Blue Diamond .50cents off coupon states “limit one coupon to a customer” ruining my bogo deals this week. Did you have any problems?

I never realized I could afford to shop at Publix til I found your blog. I enjoy shopping there so much now. Did a small trip yesterday for the napkins, chips and salsa, ronzoni, cereal, and other misc. Only $15 OOP. Thanks Ruth! :)

    Hi Ruth,
Just an FYI. I went to the Peachland Publix and purchased 8 Smart Taste Ranzoni pasta thinking it should be the BOGO price, but was surprised when the cashier charged me per item. When I questioned it, she called the manager who informed me that the Smart Taste was not included in the Ranzoni BOGO specical. I mentioned that it was charged as such at other publix, but he would not budge. He did refund my money and the cost of the $1 coupons alredy credited to me. Bummer. Thought you might want to know.

    Ruth,

My big deal of this week and first of its kind was at Rite Aid

They had Omeprazole on sale for 15.99 with a $6 up reward.. So I bought that in one transaction.

My second transaction was U tampons and U pads that were on sale for 2/$7 so with my $6 in Up rewards I walked away only paying $1.06. So in total I think I spent about 18 dollars and saved 13 on top of that. For me this was a first good trip since finding your site.
