Princess turned 5 years old on Thursday. My kids’ birthdays freak me out a little because as much as I love any excuse to throw a party, it is very bittersweet to see them growing up so fast.
Her party won’t be held for a few more weeks, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t a fun day. It started with breakfast in bed, an inspired idea courtesy of my friend Jen. Princess is one of those kids who never wants to wake up and would probably stay in bed all day if we let her, so she was in heaven. The look on her face when we walked in with that tray was priceless.
This was also her first year having her birthday at school. She was SO excited to be able to share treats with her class, and her teacher, Ms. Cummings, did a great job of making her feel special all day long.
For dinner, we told her she could choose any restaurant she wanted, and we couldn’t help but laugh when she picked Hooters of all places. (Just an FYI–Kids eat free until 4pm on Saturdays at Hooters, making it one of our favorite family weekend treats!) They actually did an amazing job, bringing balloons to the table, & making her feel like a star.
My dear friend Brittany, who you may remember from this awesome guest post on how to make homemade jam, posted on her blog a 5th birthday “interview” with her son Sam, who is 6 days older than Princess. I thought it was such a fabulous idea that I decided to copy it! Here are the highlights:
Toy: Dress up
Book: Rapunzel
Restaurant: The Crab House because it has candy machines
Holiday: Valentine’s Day because we get hearts
Animal: Snakes
All in all, it was a very fun day, and according to Princess “the best birthday ever!” (Exactly what a mom wants to hear!)
P.S. That adorable flower headband was a gift from Samantha Kale, a super sweet (& talented) reader who has her own amazing Etsy shop of hair accessories called Audry & Ulric. SUCH cute stuff! And better yet, she has offered one lucky reader a chance to win a $40 gift certificate + FREE shipping to her shop!

I really love the pleasant little peonies because it has a great color combo. I would give it to my bestie’s daughter because she loves to match accessories to her outfits!
Tracy August 20, 2011 at 6:58 pm
I adore the Poppin’ Princess Purple hair clip; the sparkling purple ribbon adds a fun element to it. My 5 year old daughter Lillie is currently growing out her bangs and clips seem to be the best way to subdue her heavy side-swept bang. She carries the nickname Lavender Lillie due to her extensive purple hued wardrobe and the color really brightens up her vivid blue eyes. Lillie loves “girly” embellishments and takes pride in her unique style and I support her playful choices.

I just love the Tiny Newborn Princess Felt Bows, Eco-friendly Felt Bows! I am expecting my second in November, I’m hoping for 11/11/11!! These will be perfect for the new baby girl, and also for my 20 month old. The best thing about the bows is you don’t have to clip them on, because if the second one is like the first, she will be a baldy for quite some time LOL!!
April W. August 20, 2011 at 7:11 pm
I love the Sparkling Diva Hair Clip. I would give it to my friend’s daughter Dezzy. She loves feathers and she loves pink. I would give it to her because I don’t have a daughter only a son and I don’t think he would want it!! LOL
Happy Birthday Princess!!! It looks like you had a great one!

It is hard to pick just one that is my favorite, they are all so beautiful, but if I have to I think I like the sunflower one the best. I would get it for my sweet little Sheila, she is my great niece whom has been with me since she was an infant, I have legal custody of her. I try to always dress her like a princess and her birthday is this comming Thursday, the 25th, and she will be 5 years old. This past year has been a rough one for her, and myself. She has epilepsy and is learning disabled, this time last year she was having multiple seizures everyday. I was so worried that I would loose her. We have finally got her on medicine that has got them pretty much under control. Sheila started school last Thursday and is going a full day this year, her teachers said she did great. I am so thankful the the Lord that she is doing so much better now. Thank you for the opportunity to win such a beautiful headband and gift certificate.

My fave (which was truly hard to decide) is Pleasant Little Peonies Headband, Eco-friendly Felt Flowers For Women, Children And Babies. My son is having a Hot Wheels Party for his 3rd birthday, but one of his best friends is a little girl named Madeliene. She’ll be attending and he wants to give her something that “a girl would like” as a favor:-) She gave him a kiss on the cheek at his 2nd birthday party….and the photographer caught the moment….priceless!
