It’s pretty hard to improve on perfection. But I gotta say, as much as I love the simplicity of my regular Cream Cheese Buttercream Frosting, this browned butter version is just a little bit better. Browning the butter adds the slightest bit of caramel flavor to the frosting, which in turn adds a richness and depth of flavor that makes everything better.

And I don’t even like frosting.

It is the perfect topping to cakes, cupcakes, or even these Copycat Starbucks Cranberry Bliss Bars!

Assemble your ingredients: Butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla.

Here is what you need:

1 stick butter, softened.
1 8oz package cream cheese
1 pound box powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Melt one half of the stick of butter in small saucepan.

Step 1: Melt one half of the stick of butter in small saucepan over medium heat until lightly browned. Save the remaining half stick for later.

Place butter and cream cheese in bowl of a stand mixer.

Step 2: Place butter & cream cheese in bowl of a stand mixer fitted with whisk attachment; mix on medium speed for approximately 30 seconds, until well blended. Add vanilla.

Turn speed to low and slowly add powdered sugar to bowl mixing everything together.

Step 3:  Turn speed to low and slowly add powdered sugar to bowl. Add remaining half-stick of butter and mix on medium-high speed for 3-5 minutes. Use immediately or store, covered, up to 1 week.

 Store finished icing in container.
