Balance is For The Weak
I’d like to think that I am one of those people who can just go and go and go, one who can just keep pushing and adding more and getting it all done without ever really having to slow down, to rest, to recharge. My body, it seems, is telling me differently. Last week Wednesday, just hours before I was supposed to be heading off for a busy conference weekend at Blissdom, I felt it coming on. You know the feeling, don’t you? The telltale raw twinge in the back of your throat that says a bad cold is coming on and there is nothing you can do to stop ... read more
Just Call Me Superwoman {4 Simple Rules for Managing Your Time}
I woke up this past Monday ready to start my week with a bang. I had spent the weekend getting caught up after last week’s trip, and by 8am I had already finished my work for the day, returned several neglected emails, handed in a writing assignment, tidied my house, put in a load of laundry, set our schedule and made our lesson plans for the day. We had a lot to get done and I was READY. And then I got a text message from a Very Important Person asking if I would be available for a phone call in about an hour. I don’t know how it works ... read more
Plan for the Holidays {Day Thirty}
This is the thirtieth day of my 31 Days of Living Well & Spending Zero challenge. To read all the posts in order, start with Day One or visit the Overview Page. * * * October is almost over which means the holidays are literally right around the corner. My feelings this time of year are always mixed. On the one hand, I truly love the joy of holiday season, but at the same time, I can’t help feel a little stressed. There are so many expectations! So many things to do! So many things to buy! As my girls get older, I am finding it increasingly important ... read more
Why I Make My Bed {10 Reasons I Keep My House Clean}
A couple of months ago, when I launched ProjectSimplify365.com, I posted a list of “simple rules” that I wanted my family to live by. Funnily enough, the one thing people commented on more than any other was a line I honestly hadn’t thought twice about including: Make your bed every day. (Get the free download here) Is this a novel concept? I am slightly obsessive about making our bed each morning. I also try (though some days are more successful than others) to spend an hour “Speed Cleaning” the rest of my house. Until I posted the above list, it never even occurred to me that it might be considered odd. ... read more
Everyone Gets the Same 24 Hours
I’ve been feeling a little down on myself lately. I’d like to think I’m a pretty positive person in general, but every once in a while I will be overcome by feelings of inadequacy. I start comparing myself to others and nitpicking all of my own flaws and suddenly the list of all the things I should be doing but am not seems insurmountable, and all I really want to do is abandon my responsibilities, crawl into bed, pull the covers over my head, and have a good long cry. All by myself. I love writing this blog but at times like this I have a hard time coming ... read more
Simple Joys {5 Ways to Simplify Your Life Right Now}
It has been several weeks since I started Project Simplify 365 and already I feel like my life has changed. As I look around my house, I can see the tangible results of my effort, but the biggest change, I think, is the intangible one: the deep sense of inner peace that has settled over me In a word, I feel renewed. It isn’t so much that I’ve managed to do one thing each day, as that I took the time to write out my goals and priorities. I refer back to that list almost daily and it keeps me focused on the things that matter most. I still have ... read more
