It was just announced that TLC’s Extreme Couponing Season 2 will begin September 28th. I know a many of you probably found this site after watching the first season, and sometimes I feel a little torn about the show.
On the one hand, TLC’s Extreme Couponing has introduced a lot of people who were struggling to the possibility of saving money on their groceries. That’s a good thing. On the other hand, Extreme Couponing has also caused a lot of problems, everything from shelf-clearing to coupon fraud, from stealing newspapers to stores refusing to accept coupons at all. That’s not such a good thing.
This morning I watched a preview clip of the second season, and I was a little disturbed to be quite honest. As a couponer and just as a person, this is not what I want couponing to be about! There are so many opportunities to be generous and giving; instead this clip focuses on excessive selfishness. I couldn’t help myself, I was compelled to make a video. (I know I just made one last week. Don’t get used to it! )
Altogether, this week I spent $52.67 on $173.81 worth of groceries, an average savings of 70% for the week.

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my last post. I could definitely feel the love! I promise to try not to get all whiney on you again anytime soon.
I had a lot of fun shopping yesterday. Back-to-school deals rock! I just love all the fun freebies & rock bottom prices that pop up this time of year & yesterday was definitely no exception–I scored some awesome deals on printer paper (yeah!), pens, glue sticks (double-yeah!), scotch tape, & more.
I was so excited about all the fabulous back-to-school savings I decided to make a little video.
I almost forgot to swing by Publix to take advantage of the 2-day sale on Kellogg’s cereal, but luckily a nice SWSL reader left a comment reminding me (thanks Tammy!) & I was able to make it with only a few minutes to spare. Between the frosted mini wheats last week and this sale, I think we’re probably set on cereal for a looooong while!
Here is the breakdown of everything I got:
At Publix (not shown in video), I spent $7.77 for $69.02 worth of groceries, a savings of 89%.
In the interest of full disclosure, I have to tell you that on Saturday morning Husband, finding our milk-and-butter-less fridge situation unbearable, made a quick Publix run for those two items. He spent right around $7.50, which added to my Publix trip would be $15.23 for $76.52, or a savings of 81%.
At Staples I spent -$0.86 (after Easy Rebate) for $37.93 worth of office supplies, a savings of 100%.
