thursday shopping 10-6-11 {& weekly shopping linky}

Wow!  You guys REALLY had an an opinion yesterday about my dress options!  It was so great to see what everyone thought, and I really, really appreciate all the feedback!  I still haven’t made a final decision–I may bring them all–but I am leaning towards 1 or 2.  Or 6.  Or maybe 5.  But I like 4 too.  Oh shoot….decisions are so hard!  At least 3 is definitely a no. Almost everything on my list was a “staple item” this week–milk, eggs, yogurt, toilet paper, condensed soup–so I thought it would be fun for Princess & I to make a video about saving on those type of items. One of ... read more

This week has been a little crazy!   Several of you have asked to see the news clips (which is so very sweet of you.)  The Wednesday appearance is available to watch here or you can check out the Thursday spot here. I usually get up verrrrry early (as in, the middle of the night for most people) to get as much done as possible before the girls wake up, so my regular schedule was definitely off this week.  Luckily I have the BEST husband in the whole world who does a fantastic job taking over the hectic morning routine when mommy’s not around.  {Thanks honey!} I will be on WINK ... read more

a BIG announcement: thursday shopping 9-22-11 {& weekly shopping linky}

I had a fun little shopping trip today.  There wasn’t too much I needed to get but I was psyched to see those Orville Redenbacher pop-up bowls on sale.  I love those things!   I  also made a little video today, but it wasn’t to show here.  It is for my NEW…(wait for it)…. ONLINE COUPON CLASS!! (Can I get a little woot woot?) I have been wanting to get an online class going for over a year, and judging by the number of comments and emails I have gotten about it, lots of you are very interested.  My biggest problem was trying to figure out a way to host ... read more

Is it just me or has this week flown by?  I can hardly believe the weekend is almost here! I had a fun little shopping trip this morning.  After Sunday’s fiasco with the girls, it sure was nice to shop all by myself while they were at school.  I was so relaxed that I even had time to make a little video! But first, just a little reminder to head on over to the PrintHotCoupons.com Facebook page this week for another chance to win your very own Qubie Coupon Organization System just like the one I use (a $49.99) value! Remember, entering is super easy.  Just click on the “GiveAway” link ... read more

And, speaking of NICE, did y’all see the not one but TWO giveaways I’m doing this week?  :-) If you haven’t already, head on over to the LWSL Facebook page for your chance to win your very own Qubie Coupon Organization System just like the one I use (a $49.99) value! extreme couponing for normal {and nice} people: thursday shopping 9-1-11 {& weekly shopping linky}

It was just announced that TLC’s Extreme Couponing Season 2 will begin September 28th.  I know a many of you probably found this site after watching the first season, and sometimes I feel a little torn about the show. On the one hand, TLC’s Extreme Couponing has introduced a lot of people who were struggling to the possibility of saving money on their groceries.  That’s a good thing.  On the other hand, Extreme Couponing has also caused a lot of problems, everything from shelf-clearing to coupon fraud, from stealing newspapers to stores refusing to accept coupons at all.  That’s not such a good thing. This morning I watched a preview ... read more

One of the most common questions I hear from new couponers is “why aren’t I saving more on food?”  The thrill of free toothpaste and deodorant–while still fun–loses a bit of luster the moment we realize we still have to eat. It is super important, especially at the beginning, not to fall into the trap of unrealistic expectations.  Shows like TLC’s Extreme Couponing make it seem like there are people out there who never pay more than $5 anytime they go to the grocery store, and that is simply not true.  While there are a lot of things that you can get for free, there will always be a lot ... read more

thursday shopping 8-18-11 {& weekly shopping linky}

I had no idea last week’s shopping trip would be so controversial!  Okay, so maybe 2 slightly snarky comments does not a controversy make, but you guys are usually so overwhelmingly positive that it did throw me for a loop.  Mostly because last week’s shopping trip was actually fairly “normal”–bread, eggs, yogurt, frozen pizza–at least in terms of extreme couponing.  I figured that if any shopping trip would’ve elicited a negative response, it would’ve been the week I bought 18 cans of Chef Boyardee.  You just never know! But for those of you who are new to my blog or new to coupons, I think it is important to point ... read more

I headed off to Asheville, North Carolina today to attend BEcoming, a small conference being organized by two fellow DealPros, the fashionably frugal Jen Schmidt of Balancing Beauty and Bedlam and superstar Jenny Martin of Southern Savers, as well as the ever-amazing Nester from Nesting Place.  I have admired all three of these ladies for a very long time, and I am so excited to go meet them in person.  It should be a very inspirational weekend, an I will tell you all about it next week! I couldn’t leave town without a quick trip to Publix this morning.  Honestly I don’t know what made me think I would have ... read more

thursday shopping 8-4-11 {& weekly shopping linky}

I had every intention of making it to Publix first thing this morning, but I just couldn’t seem to pull myself together!  Ever have one of those days?  I’ll blame it on the heat. There wasn’t a lot I needed or wanted today besides some cheap peanut butter (yum!)  I did want to get some of those BOGO Aunt Jemima pancakes, which my kids love, but I had a printing malfunction on one of the coupons, so I’ll have to wait until Husband gets home and I can use his computer to print another one.  I think that is the 2nd or 3rd time now I’ve had a Smart Source ... read more

thursday shopping 7-28-11 {& weekly shopping linky}

Today’s shopping trip was another chaotic & rushed affair.  This week has been a little crazy (more about that later!) and this morning I realized that I had completely forgotten a commitment that had to be completed asap.  Needless to say, making my shopping list and gathering my coupons got pushed to the bottom of the priority list, which meant another week of winging it at the store. I seriously need to pull my act together! Sigh. Oh here I go, whining again, after I promised not to for a long long time.  Sorry.  In any case, it was still a pretty good trip and I even remembered to get ... read more

I have been SO excited (and inspired) these past two days by your comments & emails! It was awesome to hear about your goals for your Savings Pledge, and I am beyond ecstatic that so many of you are committing to the 8 week Beginner’s Guide to Savings Challenge. You guys are awesome, you really are. For those of you who haven’t taken the Savings Pledge yet, I still want to encourage you to.  It is strangely freeing to set a goal like that, even if no one hears it but yourself. Several of you also asked whether cutting out all spending for seven days meant also giving up coupon ... read more

After three trips to Publix last week and an impromptu (and *gasp* undocumented) run to Walmart on the 4th where I couldn’t resist taking advantage of some of their incredible produce deals ($0.98 cantaloupe!  $1.75 pineapple!), we are actually pretty well stocked up on almost everything. Everything, that is, except fruit snacks! I also took advantage of a few more of the nice Yellow Advantage flyer deals that will be ending tomorrow.  Overall though, it was a pretty quick & easy trip. Here is what I got: At Publix I spent $7.48 (after Upromise Deposit)for $41.57 worth of groceries, a savings of 82% Grocery Breakdown $5/$25 Purchase Save-a-Lot Competitor’s Coupon ... read more

thursday shopping 6-30-11 {& weekly shopping linky}

I was beyond thrilled with this week’s Publix ad.  Maybe it was the $1 Goldfish–a favorite of all kids everywhere–or the great deals on fruit, made even sweeter by the oh-so-rare $2 off produce coupons Publix issued last week to those who signed up for the Stocking Spree coupon booklet.  Or maybe it was because despite filling my cart with only the week’s hottest deals, everything I bought was stuff that my family doesn’t just like, but honestly loves–Goldfish, Cinnamon Life, shredded cheese, pasta, Sabra hummus, Pretzel M&Ms (yum!)  It almost felt like a “normal” shopping trip, you know, the ones where you just go and buy the things that sound ... read more

Wow, two trips to Publix in two days–I hardly know what to do with myself!  Lucky for me, my sister-in-law is visiting this week and kindly offered to watch the girls both days so I could grocery shop in peace. Today’s savings were slightly better than yesterday, though in my newfound Weight-Watchers enthusiasm I couldn’t help but go a little crazy stocking up on all the yummy-looking berries that were on sale this week!  I also took advantage of the sale on block cheese since it doesn’t go on sale nearly as often as the shredded stuff. On a whim–perhaps some kid-free-induced high–I also decided to make a little video ... read more
