Easy Blueberry Bake

Everyone needs a go-to dessert recipe to keep on hand for impromptu potlucks and last-minute get-togethers, and this this simple 4-ingredient blueberry dessert is sure to be the hit of the party! It comes together fast with just a few pantry staples, which makes it an easy one to always keep the ingredients on hand.

And the best part? It tastes absolutely amazing! While it won’t win any awards for being kind to your waistline (but what dessert will, honestly?) it is moist, sweet, and packed with flavor. While our recipe calls for blueberry filling, feel free to experiment with other flavors–raspberry, cherry, or even apple would be delicious as well!

Here is what you need:

2 cans blueberry pie filling
1 box yellow cake mix
2 sticks butter
1/2 gallon favorite vanilla ice cream
fresh berries (optional)

Step 1: Pour pie filling into a deep 13×13 glass baking dish, mix in a little water.

Step 2: Sift cake mix over top blueberry filling.

Step 3: Cut butter sticks into cubes and place over top of cake batter. Bake in oven for 45 minutes or until top is golden brown. Let sit for 5 minutes to cool.

  • Directions say '13x13' cake pan. Is that true?

  • Wow this looks fantastic! I always love trying out new dessert recipes for my family and this one is definitely on the short list!

  • I make a variation of this using crushed pineapple as the base layer, then blueberry pie filling. I cut one stick of butter into the dry yellow cake mix and sprinkle it on top for a more crumbly crust. We love it! Funny story: we made this "dump cake" and my 4 yo grandson desperately wanted some before bedtime. His idea of "cake" was not the same as this, and so he was caught off guard by his first (huge) bite. He promptly spit it out and began rubbing his tongue saying "this tastes like poop!!" Needless to say, it has been forever renamed "poop cake" at our house! Hahaha!

  • OMG!! We have had this recipe in our family for AGES!!! We call it "Cherry Dessert" because we were not very creative - and that is exactly what it is! I have never actually seen it in print anywhere else besides my grandmothers recipe book! As you probably can guess, we use two cans of cherry filling. PLUS - and this is an amazing addition - we add coconut to the top (under the butter) as well. It is SOOOO good!!! We melt the butter and pour it over the cake mix and coconut but your way would give it a much more evenly distributed butter-ness! :)
This was my mom's favorite dessert (she passed away 5 years ago) so this post was a nice little memory for me - thank you!

  • This looks amazing, Ruth! We're huge blueberry fans at my house, especially during the summer.

Thanks for the great recipe... I could easily make this gluten-free for my kiddos! ;)
