EASY IRISH SODA BREAD

This tasty bread comes together in no time and is the perfect addition to your St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400ºF. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, salt, baking soda and baking powder.

  2. Then add softened butter to dry ingredients until it is well mixed.
  3. In a small bowl mix together the buttermilk and egg.
  4. Then add buttermilk and egg mixture into dry ingredients until well mixed.
  5. Then mix raisins with a little bit of flour and add raisins into batter. Knead them into dough batter.
  6. Place dough on a floured work surface and knead. Shape into a round loaf. Then place on parchment-covered cookie sheet and cut a cross in the top. Bake for 15 minutes then reduce heat to 350ºF and cook for another 15-20 minutes.

  7. Let cool on cooling rack, then cut and serve with butter and a nice cup of coffee.
