Food Made Simple

XOXO Cookies

Need a last minute sweet treat recipe? These Hershey kiss Valentine’s Day cookies are easy, colorful and festive for the adorable holiday!

I love recipes with minimal ingredients, especially cookie recipes. I just knew these fun XOXO Cookies would be a hit because of their simplicity and overall cuteness! I don’t know about you, but I rarely plan out my cookie baking. It is usually on a whim or I am in a rush and need to have a treat to serve quickly. These cookies are just what I need in my baking “back pocket”.

XOXO Cookies

If you are needing the perfect cookie to celebrate love these are it! Whether it is Valentine’s Day or your anniversary, these are the cookies to bake! You can customize the color of cookie or omit the food coloring all together, add your favorite sprinkles to the batter, and use your favorite flavor of Hershey Hugs or Kisses.

Here is what you need:

1 box white Cake Mix (15.25oz)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs
Pink, red, or purple food coloring
½ cup powdered sugar
36 Hershey Kisses and/or Hershey Hugs, unwrapped

Step 1: In a large bowl, beat together with electric mixer the white cake mix, oil, and eggs until well combined.

Step 2: (Optional) Divide the batter evenly between 3 bowls and add 4-5 drops of food coloring and mix well. You can also add sprinkles to batter and mix. Cover each bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 3: Preheat oven to 350F. Roll 1 Tbsp (or less) dough into ball and generously roll in powdered sugar. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment. The cookies will spread, so leave at least 1 inch spacing.

Step 4: Bake for 8 minutes or until cookies have spread and the tops look “crinkled”. Don’t over bake!

Step 5: Remove from oven and allow the cookies to cool for 1-2 minutes. Then place an unwrapped Kiss or Hug in the center of each cookie. After the cookies have cooled slightly on the baking sheet (15 minutes), move to cooling rack. Allow to cool completely and store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

  • I just finished making them this snowy Saturday afternoon. I am no baker--and these turned out perfect and look like you really fussed over them. Adorable and delicious. They can certainly be modified for any holiday or occasion.

  • Cute! Need to try these out.
    Thank you for Sharing.

    • Hi Angela! I'm so glad you like and your family likes them too. They are just too fun to bake...and eat! ;)

      • Do these freeze well? I want to make ahead for a gathering in a couple of weeks

        • Not sure if I would freeze them since it can change the texture of the chocolate kiss. But they do keep for about a week in a sealed container.
